Types of Fluoride Varnish for Early Childhood Caries Prevention

Unknown Not Applicable NCT04274569

Study Description

This study compares the effectiveness of two calcium- and phosphate-containing fluoride varnishes to traditional fluoride varnish for preventing early childhood caries. Fluoride varnish is applied professionally and adheres to teeth for long-term fluoride uptake to promote remineralization and retard demineralization. Some manufacturers have modified fluoride varnish to include calcium and phosphate ions to improve efficacy. In vitro studies show promising results, but a high-quality clinical study is needed to verify laboratory findings for improved prevention of early childhood caries.
